I just got this used and I wanted to make sure it is working properly. Should the fan always be on or does it go on only when the unit reaches a certain temperature? Mine is not working.
Also, I don’t notice any reach difference sonically on the Air/Bite switch when using the analog cab sim: Is this switch and it’s effect subtle? If so, are there settings I can try and that might make the switches effect more pronounced so I can confirm it works?
It has a fab controller so that it is only noisy when it has to be. Sounds normal to me.
Yes they do have a subtle effect. They are controlling the impedance curve your amps sees in the very high frequencies. So listen for changes there. But I find these controls give me a change in “handling” or “feel” rather than tone. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but the amp is more lively with Brite enable than flat for example.
I thought the air/bite was part of the analog cab sim and not part of the reactive load? (separate from the flat/brite/edge switch)
fan: e.g. when running my D60 thru PL-IR, the fan doesn’t really engage until I go past 9:00 on the master volume. and of course it’s only running when you’re playing. if you’re running a very low powered amp or keeping the master volume low or only trying to observe the fan running while you’re not actually playing notes, you may not hear it.
This is what happens when I answer questions after my bedtime. Yes! You are totally right, thanks for the correction.
What’s your experience with the Air/Brite switch? I don’t have a PL-IR. It sounds like they do have a subtle effect at the very top end, trying to simulate mic positions.
tbh I don’t think I hear a difference with my unit either, but I didn’t start using the analog cab sim until recently. I’ve been meaning to record it with a looper pedal and see if it’s the same or not.
