PS-2A hissing, squealing, and popping + improper attenuation func

Hi there, I’ve got a PS-2A that I use to attenuate amps for recording at home and the other I day I fired it up to find the attenuation wasn’t working quite right. Where the taper usually had the ability to make the amp super quiet or super loud, it was making the signal almost inaudible. When I pushed the volume up there’d be this hum and hiss that became more present as the knob went up.

I have a gut feeling it’s a tube issue, but wanted to ask here and see what it may be! I love this unit and desperately need it back in shape so I don’t get evicted from the neighborhood haha!

Got a deliverance 120 mkII+ recently and just wanna say how incredible that thing is!

Hi Steve, Very sorry to hear about the issue with your PS-2A. It definitely sounds like the power tubes are failing. I recommend that you start by replacing them with a new matched set. Then see if that solves the issue. It is also possible that the 12AX7 tube is the culprit so if you have a spare 12AX7 tube, try replacing that first just in case. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. Cheers! Gil
