PS-2A Popping and Noises

Hello.

I’m hearing some occasional low-frequency popping and “rustling” noise from my new PS-2A. I’m using it to attenuate my Matchless HC-30 Reverb, and it otherwise sounds great. The speaker cab I’m plugging into is a Matchless 4-ohm ESD, and I’m running a Keeley Halo, Strymon Timeline and Strymon Flint through the PS effects loop. I’ve confirmed that the noises occur with the amp and effects disconnected, with only the speaker cabinet connected to the PS.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ray, Very sorry to hear about the noise issues with your PS-2A. These types of noises are almost always caused by a faulty tube. Please send me a pic of the inside of the chassis so we can identify the rating of the power tubes. Then we’ll send you a replacement set.

Installing them is easy and will not require re-biasing. Our apologies for the hassle and inconvenience. Thanks! Gil

Hey Gil.

Thanks for the quick response. I totally understand the situation with tubes these days. I can’t get a clear shot of the tubes without removing the chassis, but I can clearly see “45” handwritten on the base of each power tube, in a section that looks like it’s labeled “tp”. Is that the rating you’re looking for? If not, just let me know and I’ll get in there.

Ray
