hello,
i did a search on the forum but did not find an answer to the question I am asking myself.
maybe it’s stupid, but for my rack system I was thinking of replacing my old vht2/50/2 power amp which was very heavy (too heavy! I’m getting old, my back is wobbly and I don’t have roadies, because my band will never be successful hahaha!) and useless in stereo (personally) with a ps100 or ps2.
they are light, and mono, with functions that can be useful from time to time, and technically I’m sure they will do the job.
but from a sound point of view, will they have as much power and punch as the 2/50/2 or 2/90/2 series? as much headroom?
it would not be for use at home, but in a rehearsal room or concerts, so used at a high volume.
Hello, As you have implied in your question, just because the power output of two different amps may be the same, i.e. the 2/50/2 and the PS-100, the feel and sonic impact of the two amps may differ. The size and specs of the transformers along with several other factors can have a significant effect on the tone and feel for the average player. But in most practical gig situations the
PS-100 would cover your needs very well, and whatever tradeoff there may be, it would be more than acceptable given the advantages of the size and weight difference. Hope that helps. Cheers! Gil
yes this ps100 interests me a lot, and I think it will end up in my rack, especially since it has very interesting features that can be useful. (loadbbox, effects loop).
and I have no doubt about the quality of the product!
