Refurbishment of this preamp

Hello Fryette support.
I bought a used preamp, this one has been modified and the sound is muddy (I had already this preamp in the past for couple of years and the sound wasn’t this one).
I wanted to know if it would be possible to return you it for check and repair.
please can you let me know?
Thank you in advance for your reply
Best regards
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

See instructions here for requesting a service, How can I send my product to Fryette for a repair? they should be able to return it to stock for you. Are you in the US?

Regards,

Dan

Laurent,

I’m sorry, we’re unable to service your GP-3 at this time.

There are a couple of problems:

  1. The CPU is obsolete and we currently have no system in place to restore it to working condition if anything should happen to the CPU during servicing. That will change in the upcoming year, but for now, we don’t want to take a chance on CPU failure.

  2. The only repairs we can do at this time are normal servicing of stock units. Modified units are time consuming to restore to stock, assuming the modification did not cause difficulty when attempting to restore. Usually, mods require removal of the main PCB assembly to restore, which could increase the chance of damaging the CPU.

Is there a way you can have the person who modified it to return it to stock?

Dave

Hello Dan, thank you for your reply.

So I was searchine for another possible solutions)

Hello David.
thank you for your reply.
I see, so it makes no sense to return the GP3 for repair :frowning:
the guy that sold me it, replaced some condensers / capacoitors (excuse me: I don’t know the right word) apparently and he wasn’t able to provide me additional informations
the preamp work but sound is not the one it should have.
Anyway, thank you for your reply!
