Hi all…sometimes need to mute the cabs when using the PL-IR. So I’m monitoring only off studio speakers. How do you mute the cabs on the ZMACS?
To mute cabinets on the Fryette ZMACS (ZMACS 4x4 Impedance Matching Amp & Cab Selector), follow these steps:
- Press the active amplifier button (AMPLIFIER 1 through 4) on the front panel.
- This will activate MUTE mode, silencing the corresponding amplifier and connected cabinet.
This function allows you to quickly mute an amp without physically disconnecting any speakers or other gear.

Thanks Dan, yup got that - unfortunately, it also mutes the signal going to the PL-IR. So I’ve got the PS-2A in the Loop of the ZMACS, out from the PS-2A to the PL-IR, to the DAW. Muting the amp on the ZMACS gives me no signal into the DAW…
I’ll bet I can be more clear:>) So I’m using the ZMACS as basically a patchbay for the amps…and once I’m happy in the room, I want to mute the cab so I can hear the guitar through the studio speakers alone. Is it possible to mute the cab only so the signal still goes to the DAW?
Dear Linda,
The correct way to achieve this would be to use one of the cab outputs for your PL-IR. There is no way to mute a cabinet as this would result in an open load condition.
Depending on whether you use the switched or the normal attenuator loop for your Power Station, you could also use the switched loop to switch the PL-IR in and out. All you have to do is connect the PL-IR to the switched attenuator loop send and then plug a dummy cable into the loop return to interrupt the subsequent signal path (and thus mute the cabs). This would allow you to switch between PL-IR and cabs. However, you have to keep in mind that the impedance matching is done after the attenuator loops for the cabinet section only. Just for reference.
If possible, I would recommend that you follow my first suggestion. This is the simplest and the intended solution and not so much a “hack”.
Best regards,
Julian
Thank you Julian, I’ll follow suggestion #1. With that, speaker cable or instrument cable out of the “cab” send to the Line In of the PL-IR?
I appreciate your insights, thank you!
Glad I could help! You have to use a speaker cable to the AMP IN of the PL-IR.
