GP/DI DIRECT OUT 2 AMP+CAB+MIC occasionally stops working while playing

Hello, new user here.

My GPDI’s DIRECT OUT amp+cab+mic ts output started to lose the signal. It just stops producing any sound after some playing and comes back when I unplug the jack and put it back in.

Did anybody experienced something like that in the GPDI? I’ve read somehere that this happens with the output jacks in some other amps so after the contacts get cleaned they start working again. Should I try something like contact cleaner in mine or it is not allowed? Any thoughts how to fix that without the replacing the output (and will the replacement work at all with the GPDI?)?

Also curious are there any differences between the old GP/DI and the new GP/DI IR besides the built-in IR player? I can see the controls are placed differently, but they seem to stay the same as the non-IR model except the IR controls?

Hello @teabandito welcome to the family :tada:

You are in the right place to get support thanks for your question.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Please standby for support to reply.

I just wanted to give this question a bump @Paul is this something you have seen before, @JohnTheConqueroo could it be an output buffer issue?

Could be a bad tube, bad pot or intermittent connection to the output stage. That can be looked at by a local tech or sent to the factory.

That sounds like something a tech needs to look at. I doubt contact cleaner will help. It could be a bad tube, but it could also be something up with the output system itself.

Have you tried plugging the AMP OUT into a cab? Does that work? That would test whether it is a tube issue. If the amp out works consistently, then it is something a tech should look at, or better yet the factory. If it displays similar behavior, then my guess would be it is the 12DW7 tube going out, and that is an easy fix.

As far as the new GPDI/R, I can’t say anything other than Steve has been listening to what people have said, and the features reflect that. It isn’t identical to the original, but the changes aren’t massive either, mostly QoL stuff.

Thank you for your advices. I don’t have the cab nearby but I will check the AMP OUT once I get the chance.

So does 12DW7 take part in the GPDI work even when the cab is unplugged? I thought it was needed only to deliver power to the cab if it is plugged.

Regarding the new GP/DI IR, I would prefer the device without any microelectronic like the IR plate just for the cases like this: if it break it will be hard to fix.

All of the tubes are involved in the sound whether it’s the Speaker Out, the Headphone Out or the Analog 2 Out. It will be the same with the GPDI-IR with the addition of the IR Out. The only exception is that the GPDI-IR no longer has a HP Out.

The PL-IR has the same IR loader and it has been extremely reliable.

Thank you for reply.

Does the GP/DI-IR still have the analog speaker sim like the original one? So if I am used to it I still will be able to use analog speaker sim not the IR?

Yeah it still has the analog cab sim.
