When I first got my unit I thought it was not loud enough for the stated 100 watts and even after watching all the Fryette guide videos I couldn’t figure out the problem. I blamed my inexperience with high end attenuation, so I put it back in the box and purchased a Weber Mini Mass 50 and a 100.
These worked fine and were easy to use, but after buying a Fryette Cyclops and rack kit for the PS-100 and with more experience it was time to bring back the big guy and benefit from all the features and investment made.
Still sounded weak. In the Fryette forum they talked about getting new tubes, so I ordered a full set of balanced and tested tubes (3 of them). Now the Power Station sounds with more power but it is super dark.
I have switched cables, checked impedance settings, plugged in without any pedals. BTW I’m using the Fryette branded speaker cables available to purchase.
The power station should not be applying so much EQ to the sound to make it dark. Can you do an AB comparison? Maybe you can upload an audio clip in bypass mode (your amp’s sound) and in operate mode (the power station).
Thanks for posting the clip! I have not seen this before and I’m a little stumped . I guess something in the operate path is acting a low pass filter. Probably Dave should comment, but I think it might need a service to figure out what’s wrong. Where are you based?
Do any of the front panel controls affect the tone?
