I haven’t all understand in the last Malcontent but finally thanks to Facebook i understand about this new forum here.
Have you considered an “sometimes” Europe-time-friendly Malcontent? Maybe it is BS but i just want to share this idea.
I have an old CL50 from 98 and i checked the actual manual and all i can say that there is an additional tube which is longer than an 12AX7 inside. Is this a c&p tragedy error or was there a redesign. And what tube is it?
I can do channel switching with the Octa-Switch mk3 from Carl Martin which works greatly and the Effects Loop! Now my number 2 Fryette amp is an CLX. But there the switching cable is not working. Can you please provide me how i can from somebody building me a cable for the CLX please. I just need Clean and Orange/Red - which is easier and the Effects Loop in order to have the same Octa-Switch configuration.
Are the Orange and Red on the CLX same voiced?
Is the CLX in the Dual Class mode “louder” than in the non-dual-class mode or is it just my perception? I expected the other way around. I got this amp second hand and needed to tweak it a lot to let it sound like my flammethrower CL50 (i boost the CLX via Effects Loop).

It’s totally fine to ask multiple questions, fill up the forum! It might be easier for you and everyone else to track next time, as individual ones. But these are good questions, here is an initially reply.
We would have to convince Steve and Joe they want a morning coffee rather than an evening cocktail. Might be a hard sell! Maybe we should do a post/vote for that and see what happens?
Are you saying the DIN cable is broken on your Fryette foot switch? Or do you want instruction on how to make your own cable for different switching solution?

Here is the pic of the tube which is not in the manual from my perspective. Maybe in the newer CL 50 versions it was not necessary any more.
Cable: It is not about the CLX Footswitch. It is about the cable i have bought together with the Carl Martin Switcher and the CL50. It works perfectly. I switch the red and green channel and the effects loop. But now i want to have this behaviour too with the CLX and this Glab Cable is not working.
Fortunately i had no beer or coffee drinking after reading your Europe-friendly Malcontent comment ROFL. Of course the main actors should be in the best mood and of course all the members of the USA. I don’t want to confuse the whole world and in the end i´m in the show alone…

I don’t think the user manual I have found corresponds to this amplifier, you say it is from 1998.
It almost looks like an EL84 which was used as a Reverb driver 1995-1999 in the Pittbull 45 and other combos of the era, and it is suspiciously close to something that looks like a small transformer (reverb drivers can be transformer coupled if the tank is low impedance).
Let’s hold on to get you an authoritative answer. I don’t want to speculate too much and muddy the water. This is all guess work without the design docs, we will need Steve to comment.
Questions:
What is the model and serial number on the back panel (if you see one).
How many tubes do you see and what are they, can you read the text?
Does it have spring reverb?

You want to use the Carl Martin Switcher with the CLX but the cable you bought does not work.
OK, without knowing the technical details of how the pins are assigned in the CLX and what the Carl Martin Switcher expects we cannot get anywhere. So again we need Steve for this.

Wait, the Carl Martin switcher with the attached picture of the cable works perfectly switching channels and the Effects loop of my CL50.
I now would like to have the same functionality for my CLX. And for that i need another cable i guess so my point is how do i have to order it (channel + Effects Loop) and who is doing this. And of course the CLX is a three channel amp.

On Facebook Mr Fryette himself explained that the CLX and the CL preamp section is slightly different meaning the CL is easier and therefore “snappier”. I can hear this to but was unsure b/c i got the CLX used. Now i tried to get the CLX into the chewiness domain like the CL and it worked somehow with the Dual Class Switch and little boosting with the Effects Loop.
I made propaganda to an CLX and CL user on Facebook for the forum but i think the most important point to make the support forum sexy is that Mr Fryette is posting here to and less on Facebook. Of course everybody can to whatever he/she/it wants.
I can hear no difference right now between the red and orange channel of the CLX… are my ears still ok?

I switched now the power tubes of the CLX and holy shit now it is in the CL50 territory. Honestly i don’t need the Effects Loop and Dual Class any more to get the chewiness of the CL50 in the CLX now. I let the amp dialed in and just power-on and everything is glorious now. I have the impression the previous owner somehow castrated the amp…
Hi @dan ! Thanks for asking. Indeed new song is finished but mastering engineer is in holidays until 13.11. Again the CL50 into the PLIR with unfortunately only one P50e IR but it sounds glorious and no troubles with the neighbours…
Because of the neighbours … yesterday i made my own Helloween party! Fortunately my ears are fine again. What is really impressive how the D and FB cabinet fit together
